Mumbai Trans Harbour Link Road Inauguration: Unveiling a monumental addition to India’s infrastructure, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), also referred to as Atal Setu, spanning 21.8 kilometers between Sewri in Mumbai and Nhava Sheva in Raigad district on Friday. This trans harbour link stands as the longest sea bridge in India, promising to drastically reduce travel time between the two points from the current hour and a half to a mere 20 minutes.

Embarking on a journey across the sea-bridge from INS Shikara in Colaba to Navi Mumbai, the PM marked the significance of this transformative project. With a total cost of ₹17,840 crore, the MTHL boasts six lanes, with 16.5 kilometers of the bridge extending over the sea.

Open to public from Saturday

Commencing operations for the public from January 13, this sea bridge is set to redefine connectivity in the region. Before the inauguration, the Prime Minister attended a grand roadshow. PM Modi also inaugurated the Nashik Youth Festival and addressed the gathering on the importance of youth participation in propelling India towards new horizons.

Revised toll charges at the sea bridge

Notably, toll rates for passenger vehicles on the Sewri-Shivaji Nagar (Ulwe) stretch have been revised, with a fee of Rs 200, and for the 2.5km Shivaji Nagar-Gavhan stretch, it is set at Rs 50. This adjustment deviates from the previous flat toll announcement of Rs 250 for the entire stretch, and for a return trip, the toll will be 1.5 times the one-way charge.

Commuters can now access the 21.8km sea bridge, which includes interchanges at Sewri in Mumbai and Shivaji Nagar, Jassi, and Chirle on National Highway 4B in Navi Mumbai.
