The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has successfully opened a new 180-meter signal-free road connecting the SEBI Building to Avenue-5, passing under the BKC connector and Avenue-3 (WeWork). The new road, designed to alleviate traffic congestion, comprises six lanes, with three lanes already operational and the remaining three set to be opened soon, according to MMRDA officials.
The project, which took just three-and-a-half months to complete—half the originally planned timeline—will significantly ease traffic at the BKC One Junction and BKC Connector Junction, which are known for frequent congestion.
Faster Access and Reduced Travel Time
With the new road in place, commuters from the Eastern Express Highway (EEH) now have three alternative routes to enter the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC). The road ensures signal-free movement, reducing travel time and allowing vehicles to connect from the eastern suburbs to BKC in just 15 minutes.
Enhanced Connectivity for BKC Commuters
This new addition also offers seamless connectivity for vehicles traveling to and from key BKC landmarks, such as the National Stock Exchange, Avenue-5, the MCA Club, consulates, and MTNL. The road is expected to improve traffic flow significantly within the business hub, ensuring smoother movement for both local and international commuters.
MMRDA’s Efforts to Enhance Accessibility
Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, Commissioner of MMRDA, hailed the completion of the road as a major achievement. “The opening of this new link road is a significant milestone in our efforts to make BKC more accessible and commuter-friendly. This road not only provides faster connectivity from the Eastern Express Highway but also ensures smoother traffic dispersal within BKC, enhancing its reputation as a global business hub,” he stated.
