Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde conducted a site visit on Monday in Raigad district to assess the progress of work on the Mumbai-Goa Highway, with the Ganesh Chaturthi festival approaching. This visit follows recent criticism from Shiv Sena leader Ramdas Kadam, who harshly criticized Maharashtra PWD Minister Ravindra Chavan for the highway’s poor condition.
Advanced Repair Technologies Implemented
During his visit, Shinde highlighted the use of advanced technologies to repair potholes and damaged sections of the highway, aimed at easing the travel for those heading to coastal districts for the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. Officials from the NHAI, MSRDC, and PWD have thoroughly analyzed the highway’s issues and are implementing effective solutions to improve the situation.
Shinde acknowledged the involvement of Union Minister for Highways Nitin Gadkari, who facilitated loans to contractors. However, he pointed out that some contractors neglected their responsibilities, leading to the current challenges. He assured that contractors responsible for substandard work would face consequences.
Although the stretch of the highway from Ratnagiri to Goa has been completed and is operational, several parts of the highway in Raigad still require significant work. The road’s condition remains a major concern, particularly with the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival, which sees a large number of people traveling from cities to their ancestral homes in Konkan.
With the festive season nearing, there is growing concern among residents and travelers regarding the highway’s condition. The state government’s efforts to address these issues are being closely watched, with hopes that necessary improvements will be made in time to ensure safe travel for all.
