Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of three highway projects costing Rs 1,575 crore in Gujarat virtually on
Monday.

The event took place in Gurugram, Haryana with the virtual presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.

About the three highway projects

One of the projects involves the construction of a six-lane elevated corridor spanning 10.630 km from Narol Junction to Sarkhej Junction, along with an 8-lane bridge as the replacement of the existing Shastri bridge over the Sabarmati River on National Highway-47 in Ahmedabad. This project is estimated to cost Rs 1,295 crore, as per a government release.

The second project entails converting a two-lane stretch of National Highway-58 to a four-lane road spanning 23 kilometers from Satlasana to Kheralu. The released statement says, “This 23 km road is currently two-lane and connects to four-lane roads on both sides. The entire route will become four-lane and solve traffic congestion due to heavy vehicles.”

This initiative aims to alleviate traffic congestion, especially for heavy vehicles, as the road serves as a crucial link between major industrial, tourist, and religious sites in north Gujarat and Rajasthan.

The third project involves widening a 19.973 km stretch of National Highway No 351 in Amreli district at a cost of Rs 129 crore. This stretch connects various district headquarters and trade centers, particularly benefiting marine product and poultry farms. It enhances connectivity between National Highways 51 and 27, thus fostering economic activity.

Highway between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar

Over the past decade, the release stated, the Narendra Modi government has allocated Rs 66,470 crore for the development of 144 road projects in Gujarat.

Recently, Modi inaugurated several key projects, including the six-laning of the SG Highway between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, and the Sudarshan Setu linking Okha and Bet Dwarka. Additionally, he oversaw the widening of the National Highway between the Bhuj and Dharamsala sections, the inauguration of the Vadodara-Bharuch section on the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway, and the four-laning of the National Highway between Pipli and Bhavnagar.
