Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday (November 19) announced that Bara Bhangal in Kangra district will be connected by road within the next two years. During a review of Public Works Department projects, he directed officials to expedite progress on ongoing initiatives.

The chief minister emphasised the state government’s focus on providing road connectivity to remote and challenging areas. He highlighted that, for the first time since independence, the road to Dodra Kwar is being metalled on a war footing.

“Rs 2,806 crore has been allocated to the department during the current financial year against which an expenditure of Rs 1,238 crore had been incurred till September 30,” he said. Sukhu urged officials to hasten the completion of ongoing projects and adopt modern technology to enhance efficiency.

To boost development, the government is enhancing the financial powers of engineers and reducing the timeframe for tender processes, which is significantly accelerating the pace of infrastructure development, he added.

Sukhu assured full support in modernising the department and advocated the construction of tunnels, considering the state’s environmental and topographical conditions, to benefit residents more effectively.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to constructing the Bhubhujot tunnel and instructed the department to prepare a detailed project report promptly. “State government would provide adequate funds for this project” he added.
