Western Railways has collected a massive amount of Rs 52 crores as penalty during intensive checking drives conducted from April to June 2024.The drive was held under the guidance of senior commercial officers.
The Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railways, Vineet Abhishek informed that a total of Rs 14.10 crores was retrieved in June 2024 itself. The penalty amount was collected by charging 2.25 lakh ticketless, irregular passengers, and some were charged for unbooked luggage. Similarly, the Mumbai Suburban division garnered around Rs 4.35 crores as a penalty in the same month.
Surprise ticket checking drive recovered Rs 43.64 lakhs via fine
The railway authorities also conducted frequent surprise ticket-checking drives to curb the unauthorized entry of passengers into AC local trains. A total of Rs 43.64 lakhs was collected as a penalty from the 13,000 commuters for the period of April to June 2024.
Earlier, the Central Railways released a statement of earning a total amount of Rs 300 crore from charging fines on 46.26 lakh unbooked baggage, irregular travel, and ticketless passengers in the 2023-24 fiscal year. The revenue generated from the penalty amount was recorded as the highest among the zones of Indian Railways.
