Tripura is undergoing a major infrastructure transformation through a Rs 46 crore railway electrification project aimed at upgrading its network and interlinking it with India’s national railway grid. The project commenced in 2022 and is set to boost connectivity and generate revenue generation for the state.
Tripura’s three traction sub-stations
The IRCON Railway Construction Company has funded the railway electrification project, which includes the establishment of three traction sub-stations across Tripura. An official from Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSCEL), Nirupam Dutta shared the progress of the project. Currently, work is going on at the Teliamura Substation, which is scheduled to be completed by February 2025 and the Udaipur station work is also under process which is expected to get operational by December 31, 2024. The work on Kumarghat P K Bari Substation was successfully completed in March 2023.
The initiative also includes the installation of a line-to-face line bay at TSECL’s substation. These developments are essential as they will enable the seamless operation of electric trains across the region.
Enhancing connectivity, revenue, and efficiency
The electrification project will transform Tripura’s transportation system by launching electric trains, which are more energy-saving, cleaner, and safer. As Kumarghat Substation is already generating revenue, officials expect that these developments will not only improve the experience of passengers but will give a major boost to the state’s financial growth.
Along with electrification, the beginning of Rajdhani Express services in Tripura has proved to be a milestone in strengthening regional connectivity. Officials are confident that once this project is completed, more advanced and faster trains will be introduced. This will lead to more development as well as improve convenience level. The quality of life of residents of Tripura will improve as the state’s railway electrification work progresses. It is anticipated the project will play a crucial role in modifying infrastructure and impacting the economic growth of the state.
