The Vande Bharat Express has emerged as a shining example of indigenous innovation and modern rail travel under Indian Railways and the ‘Make in India’ campaign. Launched on February 15, 2019, with its inaugural run between New Delhi and Varanasi, this semi-high-speed train has redefined rail travel in India, blending speed, comfort, and efficiency.

According to a detailed statement issued by the Ministry of Railways on September 2, the Vande Bharat Express now operates 102 train services across the Indian Railways network, connecting 280 districts in India. 

The Vande Bharat Express is capable of reaching speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour. This extensive network encompasses a broad gauge (B.G.) electrified network, reflecting a commitment to enhancing connectivity across various regions of the country.

The Vande Bharat Express trains provide rail passengers with a world-class travel experience, blending exceptional speed with unparalleled comfort. These trains feature premium amenities and cutting-edge safety technologies, including Kavach technology, 360-degree rotating seats, accessible toilets for Divyangjan, and integrated Braille signage, among other advanced features.

31.84 lakh bookings and counting

The statement also added that during the financial year 2022-23, the Vande Bharat Express witnessed an impressive 31.84 lakh bookings. The ministry’s data revealed that the trains achieved an overall occupancy rate of 96.62%, underscoring their popularity and the demand for high-quality rail travel options in India.

This indigenous train service has revolutionised the Indian rail system by offering a superior travel experience characterised by modern amenities, state-of-the-art safety features, and enhanced passenger comfort.
