The team of South Eastern Railway has achieved a significant milestone by completing the yard remodelling work at Andul and Sankrail of Kharagpur Division ahead of the scheduled time. This crucial development is part of the Santragachi – Sankrail Link line project, aimed at enhancing mobility and improving the punctuality of train movements.

With the completion of the Andul and Sankrail yard modification works, the upcoming commissioning of the Andul-Sankrail section of the Santragachi-Sankrail link line project will enable goods traffic to move directly between Andul and Sankrail Goods Terminal Yard via a flyover, bypassing the main line stations entirely.

Benefits Across Goods Traffic

The new link line will benefit various types of goods traffic, including parcel trains, Millennium parcel trains, and VP (Vehicle Parcel) services. These trains, arriving from Eastern Railway and Northeast Frontier Railway, will now directly reach Sankrail Goods Yard Terminal without disrupting main line movements. This improvement is expected to streamline operations and enhance the efficiency of the entire railway network in the region.

Safety and passenger convenience remain top priorities for South Eastern Railway. This yard remodelling project is notable for being the first major initiative by SER to be meticulously commissioned without Non Interlocking work, ensuring minimal disruption to train movement. The successful completion of this project ahead of schedule underscores SER’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and providing superior services to its passengers.
