A significant rail blockade at Subhasgram in the Sealdah south section of Eastern Railway caused major disruptions to suburban train services on Sunday (August 18). The blockade, which lasted over three hours, led to the cancellation of at least 11 suburban trains and the detention of several others.

The protest began at 7:53 AM when a group of passengers staged the blockade, voicing their frustration over alleged delays in train schedules and demanding an increase in the frequency of suburban services. The demonstration severely impacted the suburban rail network connecting Sealdah with Lakshmikantapur, Diamond Harbour, Baruipur, and Canning.

11 trains cancelled, several delayed

According to an Eastern Railway official, the blockade caused a ripple effect across the suburban train network. At least 11 trains were canceled outright, while several others were delayed as they were held up en route to their destinations.

The blockade was lifted at 11:00 AM, allowing train services to resume. The disruption left many commuters stranded and caused significant inconvenience to those relying on the suburban rail network for their daily travel.
