On Sunday, restoration work was underway after eight wagons of a goods train derailed on the Patel Nagar-Dayabasti section near the Zakhira flyover in the national capital, New Delhi.

“During inquiry from the co-workers and examination of the accident site, prima facie no foul play has been noticed,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways) KPS Malhotra on Saturday, reported PTI.

On Saturday morning, the accident occurred when the train was passing under the Zakhira flyover. At the spot, for the rescue operation, teams of railway police and fire brigade had arrived.

In the goods train, iron sheet rolls were loaded. It was going towards Chandigarh from Mumbai, the officer said.

A mobile crime team along with forensic experts were called. They inspected the site. To control the crowd and to maintain the law and order situation, local cops also reached the spot. 

Soon after the accident, panic gripped among people living alongside the track. A video clip of the mishap also surfaced in which the train bogies were seen getting off the track. In the video, the locals could be seen running away as the accident took place.

Rag-picker killed

A rag-picker, identified as Rafiq, was killed in the accident, officials said. The body of the 70-year-old was recovered from under a bogie, said a railway police official.
