Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced significant developments aimed at enhancing Bengaluru’s rail infrastructure during his visit on Saturday. Among the major updates, Vaishnaw confirmed that the railway line between Bengaluru Airport and Yelahanka will be doubled to boost traffic capacity. This move is expected to improve connectivity and ease congestion in the region.

The Minister also revealed plans to work closely with Bengaluru Airport authorities to bring the railway station nearer to the airport’s arrival and departure terminals, further streamlining the commute for travelers. “We will start discussions with the Bengaluru Airport Authority to relocate the station closer to the terminals, providing easier access for passengers,” he said.

During his inspection of the redevelopment work at Bengaluru Cantonment Railway Station, Vaishnaw highlighted that the railways are preparing to roll out an upgraded version of the Amrit Bharat trains, known as version 2.0, which will include several improvements.

Speaking on the Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project (BSRP), Vaishnaw noted rapid progress on both corridors of the system. With the BSRP and the upcoming Metro Rail, Bengaluru commuters will have a variety of transport options, significantly increasing the city’s transportation capacity.

In addition, the Minister hinted at plans to introduce the recently launched NaMo Bharat Rapid Rail for shorter routes, such as Bengaluru to Mysuru and Bengaluru to Tumakuru, which would enable faster travel between these cities. “The distance between Bengaluru and Mysuru, at 135 km, is ideal for rapid rail, allowing us to maintain a high frequency,” Vaishnaw remarked.

Updates on the Cantonment Railway Station redevelopment project were also shared, including the creation of an 18,000-square-meter area with underground parking facilities that can accommodate 250 cars and an equal number of two-wheelers.

Lastly, the Minister provided an update on the progress of the Circular Rail project, emphasizing that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is expected to be completed by the end of December. This project aims to revolutionize Bengaluru’s transportation landscape by providing a comprehensive circular rail network.

These developments are set to significantly enhance the city’s transport infrastructure, easing congestion and improving travel efficiency for commuters.
