In a bid to facilitate smooth travel for passengers during the festive season, Northern Railway has announced an unprecedented plan to operate 3,144 special train trips from October 1 to November 30, 2024. This initiative aims to help families return to their native places for celebrations. Ashok Kumar Verma, General Manager of Northern Railway, revealed that approximately 85% of these special trains will cater to passengers traveling eastwards to states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Assam.
Enhanced Travel Options for Peak Festivals
During the peak festival period from October 26 to November 7, a total of 195 special trips will be made available, significantly increasing travel options compared to last year’s 138 trips. To enhance passenger convenience, Northern Railway will operate 65 extra trains daily from Delhi, providing around 1.20 lakh additional berths.
In addition to the special trains, regular services will also include 123 special trips to manage the anticipated passenger rush. A total of 49 extra coaches will be added to key trains, increasing the availability of around 1,70,434 extra berths compared to 1,48,750 last year.
To ensure effective crowd management, innovative measures have been implemented at major stations, including separate entries for unreserved passengers, temporary waiting areas, and enhanced security arrangements. With these preparations, Northern Railway aims to provide a seamless travel experience for passengers during this festive season.
