Today Morning, many suburban train services on the Harbour corridor between CSMT and Vadala Road stations in Mumbai were halted because of technical issues with the overhead equipment (OHE). The halting of suburban trains caused inconvenience to numerous railway passengers. Engineers were called to fix the issue and to restart the suspended rail services as soon as possible. According to Sunil Udasi, Chief PRO of Central Railways, the suburban rail services on the Harbour corridor between CSMT and Vadala Road stations were stopped due to some technical fault. Though, railway services between Vadala Road to Andheri and Vadala Road to Panvel sections were still functioning, he said.
Regretting over the issue, the Chief PRO also said that alternate options were made available for the distressed railway passengers. He added by saying that Rail users with authorized tickets or passes could commute from Kurla to CSMT and back on the main rail line till the time railway services were restored, the Chief PRO added. Further to this, the Chief PRO claimed that on Central Railways’ request, BEST was running additional bus services on the affected route.
Later, Central Railway in a tweet, said that the Harbour services between CSMT and Vadala Road has been restored with some speed restriction. Also, DN services towards Vadala Road has been restored too. The tweet also claimed that speed and frequency of the services will soon be taken care of.
Recently, the construction of the foot-over-bridge (FOBs) at Elphinstone Road was completed by Indian Army, which was collapsed on September 29, last year, which killed as many as 23 people and also it injured many. The newly built FOB at Elphinstone Road will now serve around 1.6 lakh rail commuters on daily basis as it links two stations of Western Railway and Central Railway. Along with this, two more FOBs have been built by Army at Mumbai’s Currey Road and Ambivli station. The FOBs were developed within a record time of 117 days.
In Union Budget 2018, the government announced expansion of Mumbai suburban rail network, which will spread over 465 km at a cost Rs 11,000 crore. In addition to this the Finance Ministry also announced an additional 150 km long suburban network , worth Rs 40,000 crore. Also, this suburban network will include elevated corridors at some sections, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced.
