Heavy rain in Mumbai continued to disrupt normal life on Tuesday morning (July 9), leading to delay in train services, traffic jams and flooded streets. The Harbour line track of the Mumbai Suburban Railway resumed operations by 4:30 AM today following the receding water. According to the Central Railway, both fast and slow trains on the Main Line are delayed by 2-3 minutes, while Harbour Line services are nearly punctual. 

“The Harbour line track was operationalised at 4.30 am after the water receded. Main Line both fast and slow locals are running 2-3 min behind schedule and harbour line locals are running almost on time now,” said Dr Swapnil Nila, Central Railway, CPRO.

Earlier, in the midnight, Dr Swapnil Nila had informed that due to waterlogging at Wadala station local train services between CSMT and Wadala are suspended. 

Meanwhile, Western Railways also shared an update on the train operations at 7.30 am on Tuesday. According to Vineet Abhishek, Western Railway, CPRO, tains are running normally on both – Mumbai Suburban (Churchgate to Dahanu Road) and Harbour Line (Mahim to Goregaon). 

Central Railway issues advice for passengers

In wake of the continuous rainfall in Mumbai, Indian Railways has issued an advisory urging passengers to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary. The Central Railway advised passengers to avoid travel tomorrow due to anticipated heavy rains in Mumbai and Thane Districts. 

“In view of tomorrow’s forecast for heavy rains in Mumbai and Thane Districts, passengers are requested to refrain from travelling unless unavoidable,” the Central Railway posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Moreover, the IMD has issued a high tide alert for Mumbai on Tuesday and predicted heavy rainfall at isolated places in the city until July 12. The forecast also includes expectations of heavy to moderate rainfall in various districts including Palghar, Thane, Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Nasik, Ahmednagar, Kolhapur, Sangli, Solapur, Aurangabad, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur, Osmanabad, Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, Washim, and Yavatmal until the same date.
