National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited, the special purpose company undertaking the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, has said that the project has been providing a huge boost to the construction industry.

To expedite progress on the ambitious Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, 20,000 cubic meters of concrete—equivalent to the amount needed for eight 10-storey buildings—is being used daily across Gujarat and Maharashtra.

Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project boosting employment

So far, approximately 7.8 million cubic meters of concrete work has been completed, utilizing 1.3 million large transit mixers. The NHSRCL said that this scale of work has been achieved through the dedicated efforts of approximately 20,000 workers daily over the past two and a half years, significantly boosting employment.

The project spans an alignment of 508 kilometers, covering 12 stations, 24 river bridges, 8 mountain tunnels, and one undersea tunnel.

The NHSRCL added that the project is significantly boosting the construction industry, creating employment opportunities, and enhancing workforce skill development. The firm has set up specially made 65 concrete batching plants for this mega project.

Last month it said that an extra 394-meter intermediate tunnel has been constructed near Mumbai’s Ghansoli. This new intermediate tunnel near Thane Creek will accelerate progress on the 21-kilometer major tunnel project between BKC and Shilphata.

Earlier, Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had said that the bullet train project will be ready by 2026.
