Construction is currently underway for a temporary access bridge over the Vaitarna River for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project. The River spans in Nashik and Palghar district of Maharashtra. Spanning an impressive 2.32 kilometers, this bridge will be the longest river crossing along the entire route, facilitating essential logistics and transportation during the project’s development. As the first high-speed rail project in India, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train aims to significantly reduce travel time between the two cities, enhancing connectivity and boosting economic growth. With the completion of this bridge, project teams will be better positioned to continue their work, ultimately paving the way for the operational launch of this ambitious transportation initiative.

Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train: Current Progress

To complete the Gujarat segment of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor, the NHSRCL is actively working on finishing 11 out of the 20 river bridges in Gujarat. This includes the bridge over Narmada River which spans 1.4 kilometers.

Construction on the Narmada River bridge is also underway, with the NHSRCL planning to launch girders from both ends of the structure, situated between the Surat and Bharuch railway stations, to accelerate progress. Out of the 24 river bridges along the bullet train route from Ahmedabad to Mumbai, a significant 20 are located in Gujarat, highlighting the region’s pivotal role in the project.

While the Vaitarna bridge in Maharashtra will be the longest on the route, the Narmada bridge presents its own set of challenges. It features 25 circular piers with well foundations, five of which extend deeper than 70 meters. Notably, four of these wells will exceed the height of the Qutub Minar in Delhi, which stands at 72.5 meters.

The NHSRCL has successfully completed 11 out of the 20 bridges in Gujarat. These include the Kaveri (120m), Purna (360m), Mindhola (240m), Ambika (200m), and Venganiya (200m) bridges in Navsari district; the Kolak (160m), Par (320m), and Auranga (320m) bridges in Valsad district; the Mohar (160m) and Vatrak (280m) bridges in Kheda district; and the Dhadhar (120m) bridge in Vadodara district.
