Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate multiple rail projects worth more than Rs 1,300 crore in Maharashtra on February 28.
The key projects include the Wardha-Kalamb broad gauge line (part of Wardha-Yavatmal-Nanded new broad gauge line project) and the new Ashti – Amalner broad gauge rail link (part of Ahmednagar-Beed-Parli new broad gauge line). Collectively, he will inaugurate and dedicate infrastructure projects related to rail, road, and irrigation worth more than Rs 4,900 crore in Maharashtra
“Prime Minister will also virtually flag off two train service during the programme. This includes train services connecting Kalamb and Wardha, and train service connecting Amalner and New Ashti. This new train service will help improve rail connectivity and benefit students, traders and daily commuters of the region,” a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) mentioned
These new broad gauge lines will enhance the connectivity of the Vidarbha and Marathwada regions in Maharastra, boosting socio-economic development, it added.
The Prime Minister is slated to visit 3 states viz Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra today and tomorrow, where he will dedicate multiple infrastructure projects related to rail, road and port-related initiatives.
Boost to road connectivity
The Prime Minister will also dedicate several projects to strengthen the road sector in the state. These projects include four lanes of the Warora-Wani section of NH-930 and road upgradation projects for vital roads connecting Sakoli-Bhandara and Salaikhurd-Tirora.
Notably, these projects will improve seamless connectivity, reduce travel time and boost socio-economic development in the region. The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the statue of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay in Yavatmal city.
Redeveloping rail infra
On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of 56 railway stations in Maharashtra. Further, the foundation of 192 Road Over Bridges/Underpasses was also laid by the Prime Minister
“Mumbai is the financial capital of the country. Every day at least 73 lakh passengers travel by suburban rail from this metropolis. It is the only city with such a large number of commuters. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stones of 2,051 different railway projects across the country. These projects include 56 railway projects in Maharashtra,” Chief Minister of Maharashtra Eknath Shinde said in a roughly translated tweet on X.
At present, 241 railway projects worth more than Rs 2,274 crore are under the Amrit Bharat Station scheme, Road Over Bridge (ROB) and Road Under Railway line (RUB). A record provision of Rs 15,554 crore has been made for Maharashtra in this year’s budget. 56 stations in Maharashtra to be developed as world-class railway stations, Shinde further added.
