The Ministry of Railways has sanctioned the Final Location Survey (FLS) of Outer Ring Rail line in Telangana. This is one of the important projects to strengthen rail connectivity in the state. The FLS will be conducted by the South Central Railway (SCR) officials.

Cost for FLS of Telangana’s Outer Ring railway line:-

The national transporter has allotted a fund of Rs 12,408 crore for the Final Location Survey. This railway line is likely to stretch for a distance of nearly 564 kms.

Proposal of Outer Ring rail line project:-

It has been proposed to construct Outer Ring Rail on exterior periphery of Regional Ring Road with Rail over Rail at few places – Akanapet, Yadadri, Chityal, Burgula, Vikarabad, Gate Vanampalli, Medak, Siddipet and Gajwel. This line traverses through districts of Vikarabad, Medak, Siddipet, Kamareddy, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Nalgonda, Ranga Reddy.

The rail line also connects important towns like Vikarabad, Sanga Reddy, Medak, Akanapet, Siddipet, Gajwel, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Ramannapet, Chityala, Narayanapur, Shadnagar, Shabad.

Reasons for constructing Outer Ring Rail line:-

The rapid growth of Hyderabad City has led to an expansion of its suburban areas by 90 kms. This has resulted in an increase in the number of passenger and MMTS (Multi-Modal Transport System) trains. This has affected the movement of freight transportation. Thus, in a bid to ensure smooth, hassle free movement and seamless flow of traffic, the construction of a separate freight corridor Bypass Rail Ring Road around Hyderabad-Secunderabad-Kacheguda region is very much essential for seamless flow of traffic.

Significance of Outer Ring rail line project:-

The Outer Ring Rail line provides an effective multi-modal connectivity for the new satellite townships and industrial zones that are likely to be developed in the upcoming Regional Ring Road. The rail project enables the introduction of additional suburban services to the state capital and thereby increasing the long-distance services to other parts of the nation.
