The Aurangabad railway station in Maharashtra’s Nanded Division under South Central Railway has been officially renamed as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar railway station. According to the press release signed by the South Central Chief Relations Officer, A Sridhar, the change has been approved by the competent authority. The station will now operate under a new code-CPSN.

The bilingual release clarified that the name “Aurangabad” shall no longer be used in official railway communication, and all the references to the station would now appear under the updated title.

Renaming follows the Maharashtra government notification

The development comes after the BJP-led Mahayuti government issued a notification on October 15 approving the renaming. The administrative move follows the earlier decision to change the city’s name to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar nearly three years ago under the Eknath Shinde government.

The city’s earlier name was associated with Mughal emperor Aurangzeb and has since been updated as a tribute to Chhatrapati Sambhaji, the elder son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the second ruler of the Maratha Empire.
