India’s iconic heritage train, the Palace on Wheels, has embarked on its inaugural journey for this tourism season from New Delhi’s Safdarjung Railway Station. This luxurious train is known for its lavishness and its rich history. The heritage train is famous for its Rajasthan’s royal legacy. The train commenced its journey from New Delhi Safdarjung Railway Station on Wednesday and was flagged off by Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) Managing Director Sushma Arora and Executive Director Rajendra Singh Shekhawat.
This time, the train had a total of 32 passengers, including five travellers each from the United Kingdom and the United States, two each from Singapore, Spain, and Australia, one each from Poland, Ukraine, and Sri Lanka, and 12 were from India. The royal train’s total capacity is 82 guests.
Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) Managing Director Sushma Arora expressed her pleasure as the Palace of Wheels commenced for its royal voyage. She mentioned,” It is a moment of joy for all of us as ‘Palace of Wheels ‘, which is the Pride of Rajasthan, as it is all set to begin for its first journey of this tourist season.”
History of Palace on Wheels
Arora while highlighting the grandeur of the train’s global reputation stated, ” The infrastructure of the train emphasizes on the Rajasthani art and culture. Tourists can enjoy five-star facilities and amenities during the trip”. Executive Director Rajendra Singh Shekhawat from RTDC underlined the legacy of the train. He added that the train has been running since 1982 and is dedicated to imparting the hospitality of Rajasthan to its passengers. Shekhawat highlighted that every guest in Rajasthan is given a welcome with the sentiment of Atithi Devo Bhava. The train is one of the finest examples of luxury travel in India and has been run jointly by Indian Railways as well as the Rajasthan Tourism Corporation. This extraordinary train continues to attract tourists with its appealing royal charm.
Travelers expressed their excitement for the journey. Pooja and Ajay Joshi mentioned that it was their long dream to board this train and wanted to experience the royal treatment along with a scenic excursion. Madana Gopal from Chennai also shared the same level of excitement, he stated that he is looking forward to the journey and he hopes he will enjoy the hospitality of the train. The Palace on Wheels itinerary is inclusive of eight cities, including Jaipur, Sawai Madhopur, Udaipur, Chittorgarh, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Bharatpur and the last stoppage will be Agra. The journey will be completed in 7 days.
