Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday (September 11) announced that multiple cameras will be installed on all trains to monitor tracks and surrounding areas, following several incidents where attempts to derail trains are suspected. This measure is aimed at improving passenger safety.

Cameras will be positioned at the front, rear, and sides of the engine and guard coach, as well as on cattle guards and bogies.

Tender for camera installation in railways soon

Vaishnaw stated that a tender for the camera installation will be issued within three months, covering all trains.

In addition to the cameras, a central data center will be established to store and review footage from these devices. Vaishnaw described the recent derailment attempts as “very serious” and noted that the Railway administration is coordinating with state police chiefs to enhance vigilance on railway tracks.

The focus will also be on strengthening the intelligence network and increasing public awareness to prevent further derailment attempts, PTI quoted sources as saying.
