A goods train heading to Amritsar from Delhi was derailed on Tuesday morning at the Tarawari station in Karnal district in Haryana. In the accident, about eight couches derailed and two wheels were fallen off, accounting for no casualty.

According to ANI, Karnal district inspector Dinesh said, “Around 4:40 a.m. today, we got information that a goods train was derailed at the Tarawari station in Karnal. Eight coaches have been derailed while two wheels have come off. So far, we cannot provide more information as a probe into the reason behind the derailment is underway.”

The accident resulted in some falling off containers onto the railway tracks affecting rail traffic on the busy Delhi-Ambala route. Additionally, a few railway electric poles were also damaged.

In response to the situation, the railway officials have cleared the tracks and diverted some trains heading on the same track.

Concerning Indian Railway infrastructure

Last month, a goods train collided with a stationary passenger train, Kanchanjunga Express, in West Bengal’s Darjeeling district taking away 15 lives including two railway staff. On June 17, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs. 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each deceased in the recent railway mishap. Additionally, the injured will receive Rs. 50,000. President Droupadi Murmu has extended her condolences and prayers to the bereaved families and wished the injured a swift recovery.
