The Prayagraj Rail Division, part of the North Central Railway zone, has launched a 10-day inspection drive starting August 15 to address complaints regarding pantry car services. According to a Railways circular dated August 14, 2024, the initiative follows multiple complaints about pantry staff overcharging, misbehaving with passengers, and selling products after consuming alcohol.

The circular, sent to all commercial inspectors and chief ticket examiners, instructs officials to inspect pantry cars on all trains passing through the division from August 15 to August 24. The aim is to take action against offending catering service providers and prevent further issues. Officials are required to submit a report by 12:00 PM on August 25, 2024.

Railway sources indicate that the inspection drive has already yielded positive results, with several irregularities and complaints against pantry staff confirmed. An official from the division stated that a comprehensive report will be submitted following the inspections.

“A report will be submitted after the inspection and strict action will be taken against such employees, who are indulging in anti-passengers activities,” an official from the division said.
