The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has set a new record in freight transportation by loading 100.57 million tonnes (MT) of freight within just 148 days of the current fiscal year 2024-25, up to August 26, according to an official statement. In comparison, ECoR reached this milestone in 152 days during the previous fiscal year 2023-24.

As of August 26, 2024, there has been a 3.37% increase in freight loading, with 3.282 million tonnes more loaded compared to the same period last year, when 97.288 MT was recorded.

Sambalpur, Khurda Road & Waltair contributed to the feat

This major accomplishment was possible by the impressive performance of the three divisions that come under ECoR’s administration namely Sambalpur, Khurda Road, and Waltair. The Khurda Road division was in the top slot with 64.32 MT, the second position was obtained by Waltair Divison with 27.675 MT and Sambalpur Division was in the third slot with 8.575 MT. Major industrial hubs and ports like Visakhapatnam, Talcher, and Paradeep which come under ECoR’s jurisdiction also played a major role in achieving this performance.

These three divisions managed freight loading in diverse categories like iron, steel, food grains, iron ore, petroleum, cement, fertilizer, other cargo, and raw materials for steel plants.
