Indian Railways is set to revolutionize the travel experience for wheelchair users and senior citizens with the introduction of specialized ramps within trains, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Saturday. Vaishnaw revealed images of the newly designed ramps while also highlighting their successful implementation at the Chennai railway station. These ramps have proven to be highly beneficial for passengers who need assistance.
Rollout Plan for Ramps in Trains
The minister confirmed that the deployment of these ramps will commence shortly, starting with Vande Bharat trains, and will eventually extend to all other trains, reported PTI. To ensure a seamless experience, Indian Railways is working on a system that will allow passengers to request a wheelchair during ticket booking, triggering an alert at the respective railway stations to prepare the necessary ramp.
User-Friendly Features
The report suggested that the ramps, easily positioned at train doors, boast a suitable width and gentle gradient, ensuring ease of use for wheelchair users. Minister Vaishnaw emphasized that this innovation will significantly improve accessibility for individuals with mobility challenges.
Positive Passenger Feedback
During the trial phase, feedback from passengers has been overwhelmingly positive and encouraging, affirming the positive impact of these ramps on the travel experience for those with mobility limitations, the PTI report said.
By introducing these ramps, Indian Railways is taking a significant step toward enhancing inclusivity and accessibility for all passengers.
