In a significant move aimed at enhancing rail connectivity between India’s major cities and the northeastern region, several train services have recently been extended. This decision, which seeks to bolster transportation links and facilitate easier travel, is part of the Ministry of Railways’ ongoing efforts.
Some of the train services connecting the northeast to the big cities of Mumbai and Hyderabad have been extended. The decision has been taken as part of the Ministry of Railways’ endeavour to improve rail connectivity between various parts of north-eastern states and major and important cities in India, said officials.
Rail connectivity in Northeast
Train no- 12513/12514 Secunderabad-Guwahati weekly Express has been extended up to Silchar in Southern Assam. This extended route will include stops at key stations between Guwahati and Silchar, namely Badarpur, New Haflong, Lumding, Hojai, and Jagiroad Station.
Similarly, train no- 12519/12520 Lokmanya Tilak-Kamakhya weekly Express has been extended up to Agartala in Tripura. The train will make scheduled stops at Ambassa, Dharmanagar, Badarpur, New Haflong, Lumding, Hojai, and Chaparmukh Stations between Guwahati and Agartala.
Train services to connect remote areas of Northeast
These railway services will establish vital connections between the remote regions of the Northeast and the bustling cities of Mumbai and Secunderabad.
The train no. 12514, Silchar-Guwahati-Secunderabad Express, will now embark on its journey from Silchar Station every Wednesday at 07:45 PM, arriving at Secunderabad on Friday at 03:35 AM. For the return trip, the Secunderabad-Guwahati-Silchar Express, designated as train no. 12513, will commence its journey from Secunderabad Station at 04:35 PM on Saturdays, reaching Silchar Station on Mondays at 11:45 PM.
The train no. 12520, known as the Agartala-Kamakhya-Lokmanya Tilak Express, will commence its journey from Agartala Station every Thursday at 06:00 AM, reaching Lokmanya Tilak Station on Saturdays at 04:15 PM. For the return trip, the train no. 12519, Lokmanya Tilak-Kamakhya-Agartala Express, will leave Lokmanya Tilak Station at 07:50 AM on Sundays, reaching Agartala Station at 07:50 PM on Tuesdays.
