Hundreds of railway stations across India are undergoing redevelopment in some way or other. The Amrit Bharat Station scheme has taken the redevelopment of thousands of Indian railway stations under its ambit.

One such station undergoing redevelopment work is the Gwalior Railway Station. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw took to X, formerly Twitter, to show the progress of the project at the “World-class Gwalior station”. Tweeting a video of the station and its progress, the minister wrote that the work is being done at a fast pace.

The video showed various aspects that would make the station world-class. From pick up point to escalators to departure concourse, the video gave an idea of the vision the designers have in mind.

In February, the Railway Ministry had shared the proposed design of the Gwalior station. In a tweet it wrote, “Scripting a new chapter for Gwalior! Get ready to experience the best of modern amenities. Have a look at the proposed world-class design of Gwalior Junction Railway Station.”

Details of Gwalior station redevelopment project

The Gwalior station will be redeveloped as a world-class establishment at a cost of Rs 534.70 crore, the ministry had said earlier in April. It added that the station will be spread in an are measuring 48,061 square meters.

The iconic building of the to-be-redeveloped Gwalior Railway Station will put forth the local art and culture and Gwalior city’s rich heritage.

After its redevelopment, the station will have an enhanced passenger experience with world-class facilities such as better illumination, escalators and lifts to improve accessibility, wayfinding signages, a spacious roof plaza, adequate waiting space and recreational facilities for passengers.
