Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project: Ahmedabad’s upcoming Bullet Train station is taking inspiration from the city’s rich cultural and historical heritage. Officials revealed that the roof and facade of the station will depict a vibrant canvas of hundreds of kites, while the canopy design is inspired by the intricate lattice work of the iconic Syed Siddique’s Jaali.
The station is planned to be constructed over the existing Western Railway station, covering an area of approximately 38,000 sq. meters above platforms 10, 11, and 12. “This design will provide excellent integration with the Western Railway station through foot over bridges,” an official said. The station will also be linked to the Kalupur Metro station via lifts, staircases, and escalators, ensuring seamless connectivity for commuters.
Passenger Comfort and Modern Facilities at the Core
The station will feature multiple amenities aimed at enhancing passenger comfort and convenience. Facilities will include waiting lounges, restrooms, nurseries, and retail and commercial outlets. Separate parking areas and pick-and-drop zones will be provided for cars, buses, and auto-rickshaws.
To ensure smooth integration with other modes of transport, an integrated passenger transit building is being constructed on the eastern side of the existing railway station. Passengers will be able to move between modes using escalators and elevators. The building will connect with the Ahmedabad railway station’s foot over bridges from platforms 1 to 9 and provide access to the underground Kalupur Metro station towards the Saraspur side. The Bullet Train station will also offer easy access to Ahmedabad airport, located about 10 km away, and the nearby Geeta Mandir Central Bus Stand, 3.5 km away.
Construction Progress and Key Updates
Structural work up to the track floor of the station building has been completed. Interior work, including primary support fixing for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems, is currently in progress. Officials also confirmed that facade mock-up work and reinforced concrete track bed laying are underway, marking significant progress towards operational readiness.
