Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed optimism about India’s progress in high-speed rail transport, stating that the country’s first bullet train will soon become operational. His remarks came during a virtual event to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for multiple railway projects across Telangana, Odisha, and Jammu and Kashmir.
Technological Milestones in Indian Railways
Highlighting technological advancements, PM Modi referred to the successful trial of the sleeper version of the Vande Bharat train, which clocked 180 km/h. “This is just the beginning. Time is not far when the first bullet train will run in the country,” he said, emphasizing the nation’s pride in its evolving railway infrastructure.
The Prime Minister also celebrated a milestone in India’s metro network, which now spans over 1,000 kilometers. He said the projects launched today reflect the principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,” as they aim to enhance connectivity and development nationwide.
Key projects inaugurated include the New Jammu Railway Division, the Charlapalli New Terminal Station in Telangana, and the foundation stone for the Rayagada Railway Division Building in Odisha.
New Jammu Railway Division
Spanning 742.1 kilometers, the New Jammu Railway Division will encompass key sections like Pathankot, Jammu, Udhampur, Srinagar, and Baramulla. This initiative is expected to enhance connectivity and economic growth in Jammu and Kashmir and its surrounding regions.
Charlapalli New Terminal Station
Developed at a cost of Rs 413 crore, the Charlapalli New Terminal Station in Telangana’s Medchal-Malkajgiri district will serve as a new coaching terminal. With modern passenger amenities and environmental considerations, the station aims to reduce congestion at existing terminals such as Secunderabad, Hyderabad, and Kacheguda.
The Rayagada Railway Division, part of East Coast Railway, is set to improve transportation links in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and neighboring areas. It is expected to foster socio-economic development in the region.
