Central Railway announced a temporary restriction on the sale of platform tickets at major stations to manage crowding during the festival season. This decision follows an incident early Sunday (October 27) morning at Western Railway’s Bandra Terminus, where nine people were injured while attempting to board the Gorakhpur-bound Antyodaya Express.

The injuries occurred at around 2:45 am as passengers rushed to enter the train when it was arriving at platform number 1 ahead of its scheduled departure at 5:10 am. Videos of the chaotic scene quickly spread on social media.

In a statement, Central Railway confirmed that the restrictions will apply at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Dadar, Kurla LTT, Thane, Kalyan, Pune, and Nagpur stations, effective immediately. The measures are intended to manage the expected surge in crowds during the upcoming Diwali and Chhath Puja celebrations and will remain in place until November 8.

“The restriction imposed to manage anticipated crowding during the upcoming Diwali and Chhath Puja festive season will be there till November 8. This step aims to manage crowding on platforms and ensure smooth passenger movement within station premises,” the release stated.

The release noted that senior citizens and individuals with medical needs are exempt from these restrictions. Passengers are encouraged to follow the new regulations to ensure a safe and smooth travel experience during this busy period.

“Senior citizens and those with medical needs, however, are exempted from these restrictions. Passengers are urged to adhere to the new regulations for smooth and safe travel experience during the festive period,” it added.
