New Tata Sierra India launch LIVE updates: Price starts at Rs 11.49 lakh, check booking details, engine options and more

The Tata Sierra has officially debuted in India, priced from ₹11.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Bookings open on December 16, and customer deliveries are scheduled to begin from January 15, 2026.

Tata states that the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine is engineered for improved compatibility with higher ethanol blends and delivers reduced noise, vibration and harshness. Below are the output stats and transmission choices for each powertrain:

The Sierra utilises Tata’s advanced t.idal 2.0 electronic architecture, which is said to be the first Ethernet-based system offered in an ICE vehicle in India. This setup enables data transfer rates of up to 1 Gbps. It also brings 5G connectivity to the segment—another industry first for a non-electric model—allowing significantly faster vehicle-to-cloud communication and seamless over-the-air updates.

The latest Sierra is built on Tata’s new ARGOS architecture — short for All-Terrain Ready, Omni-Energy and Geometry Scalable. In simple terms, this flexible platform supports both traditional internal combustion engines and full battery-electric setups. It is engineered to accommodate all-wheel-drive systems and has been developed with robust off-road capability and long-term durability in mind.

The Tata Sierra enhances safety with over 20 Level-2 ADAS features, along with standard six airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioners. It also offers ISOFIX mounts for child seats and 3-point ELR seatbelts for every passenger. Tata Motors says the SUV’s body structure is engineered to deliver strong protection in both frontal and side collisions.

The Sierra has been reimagined with a focus on preserving its distinct identity while introducing a modern, global design language that blends nostalgia with future-forward elements.

The original Sierra, launched in 1991, was the first car designed in India, and this new iteration continues that legacy—developed in India once again while meeting global design and quality standards.

Shailesh Chandra confirmed that the new Tata Sierra will be offered with three powertrain options: a 1.5-litre Kryojet diesel engine, a 1.5-litre TGDi Hyperion turbo-petrol, and a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated Revotron petrol unit.

Speaking at the launch, Shailesh Chandra, MD & CEO of Tata Motors, noted that the Tata Sierra has evolved into a cultural icon. He said it has now been reinvented to suit contemporary needs, offering bold individuality while remaining meaningful, iconic and premium.

In terms of safety, the Tata Sierra is likely to be equipped with six airbags, ABS with ESC, traction control, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, and hill hold assist.

The Sierra EV is also anticipated to offer a Level 2 ADAS package, featuring lane-keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, and a 360-degree camera system. Like other Tata SUVs, it is expected to target a 5-star safety rating.
