The Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is all set to welcome passengers. Starting December 25, the airport will see its first commercial flights take off, with IndiGo, Akasa Air, and Air India Express joining in. The airport has been built to ease the pressure on Mumbai’s main airport and to support the skyrocketing travel demand from India’s financial capital.

Indigo launches new flight routes from Navi Mumbai

According ANI, Indigo will begin its operations at NMIA on December 25 with direct flights to 10 major cities. This includes Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, North Goa (Mopa), Jaipur, Nagpur, Cochin and Mangalore. The airline has already said that this is only the beginning. IndiGo plans to add even more direct routes from the new airport over time.

IndiGo will be the first airline to kick off full-scale commercial services from NMIA. Back in May, the carrier had announced that it would begin operations with 18 daily departures, adding up to 36 ATMs. IndiGo is now accepting reservations for Navi Mumbai.

Akasa Air plans new flight routes from Navi Mumbai

Akasa Air will also start flying from NMIA on December 25, 2025. Its first flight will be on the Delhi–Navi Mumbai route. Soon after, Akasa will add direct routes to: Goa, Kochi and Ahmedabad. Bookings for these flights are already open on the Akasa website, app, and major travel platforms. Check routes.

Commenting on the announcement, Praveen Iyer, Co-Founder and Chief Commercial Officer of the airline, said, “The commencement of operations from Navi Mumbai International Airport represents a landmark moment for Akasa Air and a defining step in India’s aviation evolution. NMIA will serve as a key enabler in establishing a dual-airport ecosystem that enhances connectivity, reliability, and choice for travellers.”

Akasa plans to slowly increase its flights from NMIA to 300 domestic and 50 international weekly departures in the coming years. The airline is also eyeing expansion into Middle Eastern and Southeast Asian markets as part of its long-term international strategy.

Air India Express to start with 20 daily flights

Back in September, the Air India group became one of the first major players to announce operations from NMIA. In the first phase, Air India Express will operate 20 daily departures (40 ATMs) connecting 15 Indian cities. According to the announcement, by mid-2026, the departures will increase to 55 daily, including up to 5 international flights.

By winter 2026, the group plans to reach 60 daily departures (120 ATMs), aiming to build strong domestic and international connections from NMIA. Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director, Air India, said,  “We look forward to commencing operations at Navi Mumbai International Airport, as Mumbai joins the league of world cities with more than one airport. We are happy to work with Adani Airports to build NMIA not only as a point that connects to the rest of India, but also as one of the country’s key global transit hubs for both passengers and cargo, given its strategic geographical location.”
