Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate a newly constructed passenger terminal and cargo gate at the India-Bangladesh land border crossing in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, on Sunday.
The Petrapole crossing is the largest land port in South Asia, serving as a crucial gateway for trade and commerce between India and Bangladesh. Shah arrived in the region on Saturday and is scheduled to unveil the new facilities at Petrapole, as confirmed by an official statement.
The Petrapole (India) and Benapole (Bangladesh) crossing is one of the key land border points for both trade and passenger traffic. It handles nearly 70 per cent of the land-based trade (by value) between the two countries and is managed by the Land Ports Authority of India, which operates under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Additionally, it ranks as India’s eighth largest international immigration port, accommodating over 2.35 million passengers annually between the two nations.
The new passenger terminal is a significant enhancement to the region’s infrastructure, aiming to improve the travel experience for users. With its robust construction and advanced technological features, the terminal is designed to provide safety, efficiency, and comfort for all travelers.
