Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal visited Mormugao Port to monitor the work for the upcoming International Cruise Terminal. During his visit, he visited the construction site of the new terminal building and even took a yacht ride to experience the port’s well-equipped facilities. The minister, under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, planted a sapling within the premises of the port.
All about Mormugao Port
Sonowal highlighted the importance of the new Cruise Terminal while stating to ANI, ”With the new Cruise Terminal at Mormugao Port, we have set a benchmark for excellence, focusing on providing facilities that will help us in reaching our target of 1.5 million cruise tourists by 2030″. During his interaction with the media, the minister briefed about the 20th Maritime State Development Council (MSDC) meeting which is scheduled to take place in Goa. He further underlined that under the Prime Minister’s leadership, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW) is proceeding towards the ambitious project which is of Rs 24,000 crore worth under the Sagarmala initiative. The project aims to transform India’s maritime sector.
The 20th MSDSC Meeting
The meeting focus areas will be to inspect all the major maritime initiatives, including the Sagarmala Programme and Maritime India Vision 2030. A strategic discussion will also be held on enhancing port connectivity, steps to be taken for environmental sustainability, and the inland water network. The initiative will aim to emphasize the government’s commitment to developing India’s maritime infrastructure by integrating minor ports with major ports and strengthening sustainable growth for the maritime sector. The discussion is slated to be attended by chief ministers, senior ministers from coastal states, and representatives from several government ministries.
