Attention to the commuters of Mumbai Metro! The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has revised the timings of last metro services on Lines 2A and 7. This new timetable will come into effect from today onwards (November 11, 2023). The last metro trains on both the lines will leave from the terminal stations at 23:00 hrs instead of the existing 22:30 hrs.
The move will prove to be beneficial for passengers as there has been a demand to extend timings on this route. In a video address, Eknath Shinde, Chairman of MMRDA and Chief Minister of Maharashtra, described it as a Diwali present to the commuters of the Mumbai Metro.
Metro services on Lines 2A and 7
Presently, a total of 253 services are being operated between Gundavli and Andheri West on both the routes during weekdays. It will commence its journey at 05:55 hrs to 22:30 hrs. The Metros will run at an interval of 7.5 to 10.5 minutes. Both of these lines are witnessing daily ridership of around 2.5 lakhs.
With the extension in metro timings, the number of trains on the metro corridor will increase to 257. After 22:00 hrs, the MMRDA will operate two additional metro trips each between Dahisar West to Gundavli and between Dahanukarwadi and Andheri West.
The Mumbai Metro rail lines 2A and 7 have been built at a cost of around Rs 12,600 crores. The 18.6 km long Metro line 2A connects Dahisar E and DN Nagar (yellow line) and the 16.5 km long metro line 7 connects Andheri East and Dahisar E (red line).
Mumbai Metro’s Bhayander to International Airport corridor
The second Tunnel Boring Machine, T-60, has started working on Metro Line 7A. The line will connect Bhayander to the International Airport. The initial drive of the TBM is likely to be finished within a month. The final drive is likely to be completed by June 2024. The entire tunneling project is anticipated to be finished by next year.
