The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced that all the entry and exit gates at Lal Quila Metro have been reopened for commuters. The gates had been closed earlier as a precautionary measure taken after the blast near the Red Fort that killed 12 people and left several injured.

The station is a key stop on the Violet Line, is now operating normally.

Partial reopening started on Saturday after security checks

In an earlier update, shared DMRC on Saturday, initially Gates 2 and 3 were reopened. In a post on X, DMRC stated, “Gate number 2 &3 at Lal Quila Metro station are now open for commuters.” At the time, other gates remained closed as a precaution following Thursday’s full shutdown.

The earlier closure has been announced after DMRC suspended all entry and exit at the station “until further notice”, citing security reasons. The temporary suspension affected the travel of daily passengers visiting the Red Fort, Chandni Chowk and Jama Masjid areas.

Closure followed Red Fort blast

The restrictions were implemented after the powerful blast near the Red Fort sent authorities on alert to secure nearby transit areas. As the probe advanced further, new CCTV footage surfaced showing the prime accused, Dr Nabi Umar Un Nabi, entering Delhi through Badarpur border in an i20 car. He was also seen driving along with a large bag placed in the backseat. Despite he was swearing mask, his face was clearly visible in the footage.

The DMRC confirmed on Sunday that all gates at Lal Quila Metro station have now been restarted. The reopening is expected to ease movements across Old Delhi, especially during peak hours.
