Kolkata Metro on Sunday (July 21) informed that around 1,92,000 passengers traveled on the Dakshineswar-New Garia (Blue Line) Metro by 3 pm, coinciding with a major rally organised by the ruling Trinamool Congress in the city center.
According to a statement from Metro Railway, Kolkata, this figure represented nearly an 80% increase compared to the passenger count of approximately 1,07,000 on the same route up to 3 pm the previous Sunday, July 14.
Ensuring uninterrupted services
In anticipation of a political rally scheduled at Esplanade on July 21, Metro Railway authorities implemented extensive measures to ensure uninterrupted services, the statement mentioned.
“Additional counters opened at different stations for the benefit of the passengers,” it said.
The TMC’s Martyrs’ Day rally at Esplanade drew crowds from across different districts, a traditional event held annually on July 21 in Kolkata.
