Kolkata Metro Railway on Thursday declared that it would continue to operate normally on August 16, the day when SUCI (C) party called for a 12-hour nationwide strike. According to a statement, metro authorities are making all the necessary preparations to ensure that on August 16, services along the Dakshineshwar-New Garia, Joka-Majerhat, Howrah Maidan-Esplanade, Sealdah-Sector Five, and New Garia-Ruby More corridors operate normally from 6 am to 6 pm (12 hours), to ensure that commuters experience no inconvenience.

“Adequate staffers will be deployed at all metro stations to run normal services tomorrow as per the schedule. Adequate security personnel will also be deployed at metro stations to handle any emergency situation and help the commuters,” the statement said.

Senior metro officials would keep an eye on the situation from Metro Rail Bhavan headquarters and take immediate corrective measures if needed.

In response to a mob’s vandalism of R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, the Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) has called for a 12-hour general strike in West Bengal on August 16. They are also demanding the arrest of everyone responsible for the rape and killing of a female post-graduate trainee doctor in the medical establishment.
