A Kolkata Metro official on Wednesday (June 12) announced that an awareness campaign is being launched with the aim of maintaining cleanliness and promoting a plastic-free environment within the stations.

The decision to initiate this campaign stemmed from the observation of certain passengers littering within the metro premises.

Making Kolkata Metro stations plastic-free

The official emphasised that achieving a plastic-free metro environment would pose challenges and require collective effort from both the authority and the passengers.

“Making the metro plastic-free is not going to be easy and the responsibility not only lies on the authority, but it is also the responsibility of the passengers,” the official said.

Encouraging the use of affordable reusable bags and ensuring eco-friendly disposal methods at the stations are part of the metro’s strategy.

Furthermore, the official highlighted the active involvement of Kolkata Metro staff and security personnel in implementing the campaign.
