Kolkata Metro has announced extended services on the Blue Line (New Garia to Dumdum) on Christmas night, December 25, to accommodate the surge of revellers, particularly those heading to Park Street, a popular festive destination.
Additional Services to Meet Increased Demand
The last train from New Garia (Kavi Subhas) will depart at 11 PM, an hour later than the usual schedule, while the final service from Dakshineswar will leave at 10:53 PM.
In a statement on Monday, Metro Railway revealed that services will run at 7-minute intervals between 3 PM and 8 PM to handle the increased footfall. “A total of 224 services, including 112 in each direction, will operate across the Blue Line corridor,” the statement added. Services on this line will commence from 6:50 AM on Christmas day to ensure convenient travel for all.
Meanwhile, on the Green Line-1 (Sealdah-Sector V), 90 services will run from 6:55 AM to 9:40 PM at 20-minute intervals, a temporary reduction from the usual 106 daily services. Normal operations will continue on other lines, including Green Line-2 (Howrah Maidan-Esplanade), Purple Line (Joka-Majerhat), and Orange Line (New Garia-Ruby Crossing)
