Good news for Kolkata Metro commuters ahead of Durga Puja! India’s oldest metro network has introduced “Paper-based QR Code Ticket”, a new of its kind over the Green Line. This will provide an alternative ticketing system along with the existing token system. 

As an experimental basis, the Metro Railway has launched this new system at Sealdah Metro station of the East-West corridor on October 11th, 2023. The metro authorities have upgraded all the AFC-PC gates of stations of the Green Line to make this new ticketing system successful.

Paper-based QR Code Ticket to become popular among passengers

The newly introduced Paper-based QR Code Ticket system has become quite popular among the passengers. The passenger response has been very good till date. It has been developed by the Center for Railway Information Systems (CRIS).

“Will be implemented in other corridors”

The Metro Railway will implement the “Paper-based QR Code Ticket” system on other stations and corridors after monitoring the response of the commuters. The Metro officials are hopeful that if this Paper Based QR Code Ticketing System is successful in East-West Metro then gradually it will also be implemented in Kavi Subhas to Dakshineswar and Joka to Taratala stretches of Blue and Purple Lines respectively.

List of Stations on Kolkata Metro’s Green Line:- 

At present, only Sealdah to Salt Lake Sector V stretch of the East-West corridor is in operation. The stretch has a total of eight stations on its route – Sealdah, Phoolbagan, Salt Lake stadium, Bengal Chemical, City Centre, Central Park, Karunamoyee, and Salt Lake Sector-V.

Introduction of new tokens in Kolkata Metro

Kolkata Metro has launched a new token system marking the nation’s first successful soft landing o­n the lunar surface in an unique way. This new token has been designed keeping in mind the success of the lunar voyage of Chandrayaan-3 conducted by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) last month. These new tokens will be made available to the commuters from the ticket counters.
