The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been assigned to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for two metro rail corridors in Madhya Pradesh. The corridors include Indore to Ujjain and Indore to Pithampur, as per an official statement.

The proposed corridors will spread over a combined distance of 84 kilometres, the technical guidance for the metro rail services be given by the DMRC, as per an official. The DPR report will initially focus on connecting important landmarks such as Lavkuch Chauraha, Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain, and the Nanakheda Bus Stand. A letter has been issued regarding the project layout as confirmed by the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited.

Meanwhile, the trial run of the first phase of Bhopal’s metro rail was completed in October 2023. The remaining construction of other phases is expected to begin soon. Moreover, work on a 31-kilometer metro line in Indore is underway.

Metro rail network between Ujjain & Indore

Ahead of a major Hindu festival Simhastha which is observed every 12 years in Ujjain, the state government has announced its plan to build a metro rail connection between Indore and Ujjain. The festival is scheduled to be celebrated in 2028.
