The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is set to submit a proposal to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for the construction of a 5-km elevated Metro corridor aimed at enhancing connectivity between the Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) in Jewar, which is expected to open early next year, and Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.

According to the report in The Indian Express, the proposal will be reviewed by the Chief Minister, and its future will depend on securing the necessary funding, said Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) CEO Arun Vir Singh.

DMRC’s Rs 950 crore plan for metro link to Tughlakabad

DMRC plans to build a short corridor between Tughlakabad and Kalindi Kunj as part of a larger Rs 950 crore project to connect Aerocity to Tughlakabad over the next three years.

The corridor’s extension to Kalindi Kunj will offer Metro interchange facilities with the Magenta Line, Blue Line, Aqua Line, and the proposed new line between Botanical Garden and Noida’s Sector 142.

Metro link between NIAL and IGI

In a letter dated December 13, Singh informed DMRC’s chief project manager, Shiv Om Dwivedi, that the work on the Aerocity to Tughlakabad Metro corridor is progressing rapidly.

He also noted that DMRC had initially prepared a detailed project report for a link between NIAL and IGI via the expressway, but this was shelved after the Uttar Pradesh government opted for the rapid rail option. This 72-km corridor would connect Ghaziabad, Greater Noida, and the Noida airport.

“Initially, DMRC had prepared a detailed project report to link NIAL with IGI via the expressway. However, this proposal was shelved after the UP government decided to look at the rapid rail option — a 72-km corridor connecting Ghaziabad, Greater Noida and Noida airport,” Singh had said in the letter.
