Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday (March 14) laid the foundation stone for two additional corridors of Delhi Metro’s Phase 4 during an event at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

Marking a significant step toward enhancing public transportation infrastructure in the national capital, the Union Cabinet had approved the expansion of the Delhi Metro with two new corridors under Phase-IV of project on March 13. 

Two additional corridors under Delhi Metro’s Phase 4

The two additional corridors under Delhi Metro’s Phase 4, spanning a combined length of 20.762 kilometers, are – Lajpat Nagar to Saket G-Block and the Inderlok to Indraprastha lines. The construction of these new corridors is slated for completion by March 2026 in stages.

These new corridors are poised to enhance Metro connectivity across various parts of Delhi. With an estimated total cost of Rs 8,399 crore, funding for the project will be sourced from the Government of India, the Government of Delhi, and international funding agencies. 

Delhi Metro’s new corridors details 

The Lajpat Nagar to Saket G-Block corridor, covering 8.385 kilometers entirely elevated, will feature eight stations. Meanwhile, the Inderlok to Indraprastha corridor, stretching over 12.377 kilometers, will include 11.349 kilometers of underground lines and 1.028 kilometers of elevated lines, with a total of 10 stations. 

Furthermore, these corridors will also see the establishment of eight new interchange stations at key junctures such as Inderlok, Nabi Karim, New Delhi, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Lajpat Nagar, Chirag Dilli, and Saket G Block, expected to significantly improve interconnectivity among all operational lines of the Delhi Metro network. 

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) has initiated pre-bid activities and tender document preparation for the construction of these corridors.
