The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) on Tuesday (September 10) announced that trial runs for the 12-kilometer section between Sahibabad and Delhi’s New Ashok Nagar are slated to begin in November. According to the statement, the New Ashok Nagar Namo Bharat station in Delhi is nearing completion.
“The construction work is now in its final stage and it is expected that the trial run for about 12 km section from Sahibabad to New Ashok Nagar will start from November. Once operational, this station will enable seamless travel between New Ashok Nagar and Meerut South RRTS stations in about 35-40 minutes,” the statement said.
Delhi section of RRTS corridor
The Delhi segment of the NCRTC corridor includes a nine-kilometer elevated viaduct and a five-kilometer underground section. With the elevated viaduct construction complete, work is swiftly progressing on track laying and overhead electrification (OHE). This 14-kilometer stretch features the Sarai Kale Khan, New Ashok Nagar, and Anand Vihar stations, all of which are nearing completion.

NCRTC’s statement also added that the New Ashok Nagar station spans about 215 meters in length and 30 meters in width. “The concourse and platform levels are complete and the roof work is progressing. Track-laying activities are almost complete till New Ashok Nagar. OHE and signalling activities are also in progress,” it said.
A 90-meter-long and 6-meter-wide foot overbridge (FOB) is also being constructed to connect the New Ashok Nagar Namo Bharat station with the nearby metro station. This FOB will link the metro station’s concourse level directly to the NCRTC station, allowing passengers to transition seamlessly between transport modes without leaving the station premises.
“The station is equipped with four escalators for seamless passenger movement from platform to concourse level. Platform screen doors (PSDs) are also being installed at the platform level for passenger safety,” it said.
To further enhance connectivity and accessibility, NCRTC is constructing two additional FOBs at the station. The station’s entry will feature parking for over 550 two-wheelers and four-wheelers, significantly improving convenience for those using personal vehicles. Dedicated pick-up and drop-off points will also be available for vehicles, allowing cabs and autos to service passengers without obstructing traffic.
More than 50% RRTS corridor operational
Currently, Namo Bharat train services operate on a 42-kilometer stretch from Sahibabad to Meerut South. Upon completion of the full 82-kilometer corridor by June 2025, passengers will be able to travel between Delhi and Meerut in under an hour, the statement concluded.
