The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) on Sunday (March 31) announced that the construction of a 280-meter foot overbridge linking the Sarai Kale Khan RRTS station with Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station will be completed by May. According to a NCRTC official, the foot overbridge is equipped with six travellatorsand aims to facilitate seamless and safe passenger movement between the two stations, offering access to unpaid areas as well.
In the official statement NCRTC stated that all 11 pillars and pillar caps for the foot overbridge have been erected, while 40 girders necessary for the 10 spans have been prefabricated off-site using precast concrete technology.
This technological innovation has not only helped in reducing traffic disruptions in the densely populated vicinity between the Sarai Kale Khan RRTS station and Hazrat Nizamuddin station, but also accelerated construction pace while mitigating pollution.
“Presently, six spans, comprising 24 girders, have been successfully launched. The launching process for the remaining four spans, consisting of 16 girders, will start shortly. Moreover, the concrete casting of slabs, which is being done at the location, has started as well. The FOB is targeted to be completed by May 2024,” the statement said.

Designed to international standards, the foot overbridge features six travellators—three on each side—capable of accommodating up to 12,000 commuters per hour. Additionally, a three-meter-wide walkway will run parallel to the travellators for commuters who opt not to use them.
NCRTC officials also informed that the construction at the concourse and platform levels has been concluded, additionally pre-cast ballastless track slabs have been laid. Currently, the construction of the station’s roof is underway, with pre-engineered building (PEB) structures reaching 50 to 60 percent completion.
Sarai Kale Khan RRTS station
The statement also added that the construction of the Sarai Kale Khan RRTS station, which is set to become a hub of multi-modal integration, is progressing rapidly. The Sarai Kale Khan RRTS station is one of the largest stations along the 82 km long Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor.
The Sarai Kale Khan RRTS station is strategically located in close proximity to the Delhi Metro (Pink Line) station, Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station, and Vir Haqiqat Rai Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT). The upcoming station is poised to facilitate seamless intermodal integration.
Moreover, the station is expected to play a pivotal role in the region’s transportation network as it will also be the converging station for all three corridors of the first phase—Delhi-Panipat, Delhi-SNB-Alwar, and Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut.
Notably, a 34-km section between Sahibabad and Modi Nagar North of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor, which has as many as eight stations, is operational, while the construction is progressing swiftly on the remaining stretches, with the entire 82-km corridor anticipated to open for public ahead of the targeted timeline of June 2025.
