Good news for the people of Bhubaneshwar! The “Temple City” will soon join the select cities in the country with a metro rail system. This comes following the approval of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the Phase-1 of Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project. On Saturday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik held a reviewing meeting with senior officials and reviewed the status of the metro project.
Laying of foundation stone for Bhubaneswar Metro Project:-
The foundation stone will be laid by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on January 01, 2024. “I am sure this mega project will make Bhubaneswar a top liveable city in the country,” Patnaik tweeted.
Cost and Target of Completion of Bhubaneswar Metro Project Phase-1:-
The state government has approved the DPR at a total cost of Rs 5,929 crore. The cost will be fully borne by the state exchequer. The government had engaged Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to prepare the DPR for the metro project. The project will be completed in four years.
List of stations on Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project Phase 1:-
The entire alignment of the metro rail project from Trisulia Square to Bhubaneswar airport will be on an elevated structure. The 26-km-long route will have 20 stations. These are – Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA), Capital Hospital, Sishu Bhawan, Bapuji Nagar, Bhubaneswar Railway Station, Ram Mandir Square, Vani Vihar, Acharya Vihar Square, Jaydev Vihar Square, Xavier Square, Rail Sadan, District Centre, Damana Square, Patia Square, KIIT Square, Nandan Vihar, Raghunathpur, Nandankanan Zoological Park, Phulapokhari and Trisulia Square.
Significance of Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project:-
The Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project aims at strengthening the public transport system in the state capital. The state capital has been recognised for various urban projects and is emerging as a city with an enhanced quality of life.
