The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS), Southern Circle, is set to conduct a statutory inspection of the newly built Nagasandra to Madavara (BIEC) section of the Bengaluru Metro. The inspection, scheduled for October 3 and 4, 2024, marks a key milestone towards the inauguration of this extended Green Line stretch.
Mid-October Opening Expected Pending CMRS Certification
According to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) officials, the new 3.7-km section is expected to open for public use by mid-October, pending certification from the CMRS. The approval process, including safety clearances, is anticipated to take around 8 to 10 days after the inspection.
This stretch is an important extension of the North-South Green Line and will provide much-needed connectivity to the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) on Tumkur Road. The BIEC is a major venue for international exhibitions, conferences, and events, and the metro extension will significantly enhance access to the site.
The newly constructed section includes three metro stations: Manjunatha Nagar, Chikkabidarakallu, and Madavara. Built at a cost of Rs 298 crore, the extension will ease travel for daily commuters in northern Bengaluru and visitors attending events at the BIEC.
BMRCL had submitted its application for inspection to the CMRS on August 7, signaling its readiness for public service. The CMRS inspection will evaluate safety protocols, infrastructure, and operational readiness before approving the section for passenger use.
