The government is likely to extend the July 31 deadline for submitting applications under its Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), a senior official said on Thursday.

“We have received healthy response and are considering extending the deadline by a few days,” the official said.Launched on May 1, the ECMS is part of the government’s broader strategy to reduce import dependency and strengthen India’s domestic electronics manufacturing ecosystem.

Financial Incentives

The ₹22,919-crore scheme provides financial incentives for establishing manufacturing facilities for key electronic components such as resistors, capacitors, inductors, micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS), sensors, and semiconductor-grade materials.

Expected Investment

In May, Union minister for electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw had revealed that the ministry received 70 applications within the first two weeks of the application window opening.

According to an official release dated March 28, the scheme is expected to attract investments of ₹59,350 crore, lead to production worth ₹4,56,500 crore, and generate 91,600 direct jobs, along with a significant number of indirect employment opportunities over its duration.
